Between CPB and BPA, the trial year for new marketing mechanisms!

After a transition period of a few years, 2023 was marked by some novelties for the biomethane sector:

First effective signings of Biomethane Purchase Agreements (long-term contracts for unsubsidized biomethane purchases, directly between a producer and a consumer or via a supplier) in France (TotalEnergies / Saint-Gobain) and in Europe (Waga Energy in Spain).
Implementation of the Biomethane Production Certificates mechanism, establishing an obligation system for natural gas suppliers to support the emergence of the production sector by integrating upstream or by subsidizing producers through the purchase of "BPC" (CPB in french).

After the announcements effects in 2023, 2024 will be the testing year for the ramp-up of these new mechanisms and the continuation of the development dynamics of biomethane in France and Europe.
